VooPoo Drag X vs. Drag S Review

In the past few years, VooPoo has established themselves a forerunner in the vaping industry. This is due to their constant innovation in developing game-changing, cutting-edge vape mods. The rise of VooPoo has coincided with the skyrocketing popularity of pod mod devices, due to their ease of use and the ability to pack premium feature sets into increasingly sleek and compact packages. The Drag line is one of VooPoo’s flagship series of pod mods. Today we are going to be looking at two of the most acclaimed devices in this line, the Drag X and the Drag S. But how do they differ and which mod is the right choice for you? Let’s dive in…

Construction / Appearance

At first glance, especially from a picture online, the Drag X and Drag S appear practically identical. From a construction standpoint, they are very similar. Both feature resilient, durable zinc-alloy chassis that are meant to stand the test of time. In addition, both feature leather coverings over the metal making them ergonomic and grippable as well elegant and easy on the eyes. Both devices also come in a wide range of gorgeous and classy colorways from timeless blacks and deep reds, to flashier options such as bright orange and union-jack patterns. 

The major difference between the two devices is in their size. The Drag X pod measures 124 x 32.5 x 28mm whereas the Drag S pod is shorter, measuring in at 116 x 33 x 28mm. Herein lies the major difference between these devices — the Drag S is essentially the little brother (or sister) of the Drag X and thus is meant to be a more portable option. It’s worth mentioning that both devices feature crisp crystal-clear OLED stat displays that are essentially the same size. 

Power / Operation

Now that we understand the construction of the devices and their general cosmetic similarities, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of tech specs. As far as power-output, the Drag X kit uses a separate 18650 battery to drive 5-80 watts of vaping power. The Drag S kit, conversely, uses a built- in 2500 mAH battery to drive 5-60 watts of vaping power. Thus, the Drag X is certainly more powerful, but for users who don’t want to deal with the hassle of an external battery may prefer the convenience/affordability of the Drag S. Both devices support Type-C charging so getting your sessions back up and running is no sweat. As far as power protections, both devices feature a full array of protections, including Overtime, Short-circuit, Overcharge, Output overcurrent, Over discharge, and Over temperature. Therefore, you can be sure your sessions are safe, reliable, and under control. 

As far as pods are concerned, both devices feature pods with generous 4.5 ml capacity, ideal for holding an epic quantity of your vape juice of choice. The pods for both devices feature convenient magnetic pod connection mechanics, making swapping them out a breeze. The pods also use bottom fill technology for refills, helping prevent leaks and spillages. 

Vapor Production / Experience

In practice, when putting these mods to the test, performance is fantastic. Both devices offer a premium pod vaping experience, suitable for mouth-to-lung vaping as well as direct lung sessions. The Drag X’s increased power makes producing more voluminous vapor easier and we noticed the longer battery life of the separate 18650 battery. However, we will say both devices provided a satisfying experience and felt fully-featured, despite being smaller and less complex than large sub-ohm and box mods. 

Conclusion

All in all, you can’t go wrong with VooPoo’s Drag X or VooPoo Drag S models. It simply depends on your preference and lifestyle. If you want a more lightweight and compact option but are willing to sacrifice some output power, go for the Drag S. If you want the extra boost and are fine with carrying a slightly bulkier device, the Drag X is the ticket. Either way you won’t regret upgrading your setup to a VooPoo!
